Case #113: Understanding and Interpreting Non-Fiction Texts
This case shows a teacher scaffolding learning experiences for English language learners by guiding them through a non-fiction text about forest animals, and students interpreting and analyzing the text using graphic organizers.

5th grade

Topics: English as a New Language, Reading, Science

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Review the Field Experience format to understand what you will be looking for in the case.
  2. Watch the entire video, taking notes of your thoughts and questions along the way. The video is approx. 15 minutes long.
  3. Complete the Field Experience format.
  4. Review your writing to make sure that you have minimal errors in spelling, grammar, punctuation, etc. 
  5. Submit your assignment as an attachment.
