SHIFT Program Brochure.pdf

The program is designed to provide students with a unique international experience and a multidisciplinary perspective on digital health. It will run from May 13 to May 31, 2026 (approximately 18 days in France). The full course spans about six weeks, including:

  • One week of asynchronous preparatory coursework prior to departure
  • Two and a half weeks of post-trip asynchronous activities following the in-person component

We intentionally designed this course to address emerging workforce needs and promote collaboration across disciplines. The program is geared toward students in:

  • Health Informatics and Information Management (HIIM)
  • Health Administration (HA)
  • Computer Information Systems (CIS)
  • Computer Science (CS)
  • Health Sciences
  • Clinical and allied health professions

Our guiding philosophy is that many digital health challenges are human-centered, requiring teams from diverse backgrounds to work together effectively. While students are often educated in disciplinary silos, they are expected to collaborate in practice—creating gaps in understanding and communication. The SHIFT Program seeks to close these gaps through interdisciplinary learning and international collaboration.

Sample Topics Under Development Include:

  • Interoperability
  • Health & Digital Literacy
  • Ethics & Governance
  • Cybersecurity
  • Data Quality, Collection & Use
  • Project Management

The course will combine lecture-based learning with hands-on activities, culminating in a hackathon-style event designed to foster creative problem-solving and teamwork. However, no technical expertise is required by the students.

Best,

Dr. Elise Lambert
