M7: Getting Started Chapter 5

Welcome to Module 8: Language and Education Policy

Overview

While the law dictates to districts that they must provide services, less is said about the type of programs schools must offer. As you saw in the previous module, there are varying perspectives about language learning and teaching, so I'm sure that it is not surprise to you that there would be varying program models.

In this module, we will be exploring the major types of programs available for ELs.

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • Describe the difference between Bilingual and English-Medium program models;
  • Evaluate the guiding philosophies across program models;
  • Explain the most common program models for EL instruction; and
  • Generate ideas about parents' perceptions about program models.

This module is about language and education policies for English Language Learners
