M3: Wright Text - Chapter 2
Read Chapter 2 in the Wright book on language. As you do so, you will notice some key terms that are also highlighted here for you in Module 3.
Pay attention to the definition of language and all the different components. These are important building blocks of languages and we will go over them more in depth on the next few slides. As an English speaker you already know a lot about language (we call that tacit knowledge), but you may not know how much you know (because you can't always articulate the rules), and you may not know terms such as phonology, syntax, semantics, morphology, or pragmatics - yet. These terms and concepts are important for you to understand at a deeper level now because not only do you use them daily in your language practices, but now you are going to TEACH them to others as a teacher! Exciting stuff!
