Triads: The B Diminished Triad - Component Intervals of Diminished Triads, Pt. 2

Diminished triads contain two minor 3rds:

  • The m3 between the root and the third
  • The m3 between the third and the fifth.

In a diminished triad, the interval between the root and the fifth is always a diminished fifth (dim5).

A diminished 5th (dim5) is one half-step smaller than a P5.
