Using the Accessibility Checker to fix Alt Text and Heading Errors
Adding Alt Text to Images
When the accessibility checker alerts you to images without alt text, follow these steps to add alt text or mark the image as decorative:
- Right-click Figures alternative text - Failed.
- Select Fix from the context menu.
- Add alternative text to the text field.
- If you have multiple images, click the next arrow to continue adding alt text to images in the document.
- If the image is purely decorative, select the Decorative figure checkbox.
- Once you add alt text to your images, save the document and run the accessibility checker again to ensure all images are fixed.
Fixing Heading Nesting Errors
If your source document had incorrectly nested headers, Adobe's Accessibility Checker will notify you when you run a check. Do the following to correct header hierarchy:
- Expand the Heading list in the Accessibility Checker.
- Expand the Appropriate Nesting - Failed list.
- Left-click each element to see where they are on the page.
- Right-click the element and select Show in Tags Panel
- Right-click the highlighted tag and select Properties
- On the Tag tab, select the Type select menu and choose the appropriate heading level.
- Select Close to save your changes.
- Repeat on other failing elements, and then run the accessibility checker again.
