Using Copy and Copy Formatted

  • To manually create a quick bibliography from EndNote, first check that you have the correct citation style selected.
  • Select all the records you want to include in your bibliography.
  • Right click on the selected articles or go up to the Edit menu.
  • If you select Copy, EndNote will capture the inline citations for the selected records. This is the text you place immediately after you quote or paraphrase material in your paper to identify the source.
    • For example: (Ballantyne, 2020; Brown, 2020)
    • For this option, you should select only the records that are referenced in a particular sentence instead of all the records that are referenced in the whole paper.
  • If you select Copy Formatted, EndNote will create a bibliography or works cited list for the selected records in the citation style you chose. This list goes at the end of your paper and lists all of the sources you referenced.
    • For this option, you should select all the records you want to include in your bibliography to ensure they are in the correct order.
    • Copy Formatted maintains the necessary formatting for a citation style, such as italics or identation.
    • EndNote will paste the references in the correct order for your citation style, regardless of the order they appear in your library. For example, if APA style is selected, the bibliography will be alphabetical by author's last name, even if you have your library sorted in a different way.
  • Paste your copied text wherever you need your bibliography.
