- From the EndNote Desktop software, go to the References menu, then click on Find Duplicates.
- Records that are identified as duplicates will be moved to a temporary Group called Duplicate References at the top of the My Library sidebar and the popup window shown below will appear.
- Fields are highlighted in blue when there is a difference in the two records. For example, in the screenshot above the record on the left uses only the authors' initials while the record on the right includes their whole names.
- Decide which record you want to keep. If one of the records has a PDF attached, that would be the better option to keep. Otherwise, choose the record with the more detailed metadata.
- There may be some useful information in the record you choose not to keep. If so, you can copy and paste the text into the record you are keeping.
- Make sure the record you are keeping is complete, then click Keep This Record.
- If the two records are not the same (e.g., two blank records with different PDFs attached), click Skip to make no changes.
