ADVANCED FEATURES

Records exported from library databases do not include PDF attachments. This function is disabled because of IT security concerns. Instead, you can use the Find Full Text function to attach open access PDFs that are available online or manually attach PDFs downloaded from the databases.

In EndNote Web:

  • When you have the correct PDF downloaded on your computer, find the associated reference in EndNote Desktop.
  • Click on the paperclip icon at the bottom of the record, then click Attach files and select the PDF.
  • You cannot view or annotate the PDF in EndNote Web, but it will be accessible in EndNote Desktop after a sync.

In EndNote Desktop:

  • When you have the correct PDF downloaded on your computer, select the associated reference in EndNote Desktop.
  • There are three ways to attach the PDF:
    • In the right sidebar, click the paperclip icon and select the PDF.
    • Right-click the reference and go to File Attachments and then Attach File.
    • From the References menu in the top menu bar, go to File Attachments and then Attach File.
  • This process will save a copy of the PDF in the same file directory where you saved your EndNote Library file.
