Importing from PubMed

While most library databases use the same method to import records into EndNote, the PubMed uses a slightly different method.

On this page, you will learn how to export records from PubMed and import them into the EndNote Desktop software.

  • In the PubMed database, do your search as normal.
  • Select the records you want to export to EndNote using the checkboxes.
  • At the top of the page, click the Send to button and select Citation manager (see screenshot below).

  • Confirm which results you want to export and click Create file. 
  • Your records will be downloaded in an .nbib file.
  • In EndNote, go to the File menu and then Import > File.

  • Using the Choose button, find and select the .nbib file you downloaded from PubMed.
  • In the Import Option dropdown menu (screenshot above), select Other Filters...
  • From this list, scroll down and select PubMed (NLM), then click Choose. Continue your import as normal.
